Celebrating 100 Years of Black History Month
Black History Month offers an important opportunity to recognize the voices, experiences, and contributions that shape our communities, our industry, and our organization. To honor this month, we are excited to recognize someone that makes a real difference on our team with his dedication, expertise, and commitment to his role. We are happy to highlight James Thompson, Senior Property Adjuster, New York, NY.
In this feature, James shares the people and things that have shaped his life, the lessons that have kept him grounded, and the words that keep him inspired. At Engle Martin, we think that one of the best ways to recognize this month is to listen to and celebrate the voices of our team and we are proud to spotlight James.
Q: What is something that you hope that people take away from Black History Month?
James Thompson: Black History Month is a significant component of our country’s legacy. It serves as a platform for highlighting noteworthy historical occurrences, admirable individuals, and initiatives for social change. In addition to having enormous significance for the African American community, this memory is essential for advancing knowledge of both American and global history.
Q: Who are your role models?
James Thompson: My parents. I have always been inspired by their approach. They taught me that dreams are not realized instantly; rather, they are gradually developed with self-belief, dedication, and patience. I also learned to maintain my grounding from them. Despite their struggles, they never grumbled or compared their circumstances to others.
Q: What is one of your favorite inspirational quotes?
James Thompson: One of my favorite inspirational quotes comes from Dr. Mae Jemison, the first African American woman to travel to space: “Never be limited by other people’s limited imagination; never limit others because of your own limited imagination.”
As we celebrate 100 years of Black History Month, we are grateful to James for sharing a glimpse into his experiences and inspirations. We are proud to recognize James and we remain committed to honoring the stories, perspectives, and contributions that continue to strengthen our organization and the communities we serve.
