Women’s History Month: Dani Finkelstein’s Perspective on Strength and Opportunity

Dani Finkelstein’s Perspective on Strength and Opportunity

During Women’s History Month, we take time to recognize the women across Engle Martin who contribute their expertise, leadership, and perspective to the insurance industry every day. Their experiences and insights help shape our organization while paving the way for future generations of professionals.

This month, we’re spotlighting Dani Finkelstein, General Adjuster based in Denver, Colorado, who has been part of the Engle Martin team for four and a half years. Through her dedication to doing the right thing, maintaining a positive outlook, and supporting others, Dani exemplifies the strength and resilience women bring to this industry.

The Influence of a Strong Role Model

For Dani, one of the most meaningful influences in her life was her grandmother.

Although her grandmother passed away when Dani was in high school, the lessons she shared continue to guide Dani both personally and professionally.

“She influenced me to always be strong and follow my dreams – all while emphasizing doing the right things for the right reasons and making sure to take care of those around me.”

Those values have stayed with Dani and shape how she approaches both her work and relationships today. Whether navigating complex claims or supporting colleagues and clients, she strives to move through life with integrity, compassion, and purpose.

Words to Live By

Dani finds inspiration in words that remind her of the importance of empathy and personal responsibility. One of her personal mottos reflects the perspective she brings to her work:

“You never know what people are going through, and sometimes the people with the biggest smiles are struggling the most, so be kind.”

In a profession where people are often experiencing difficult situations, this mindset serves as a powerful reminder to lead with understanding and compassion. Another quote that resonates with her comes from Ralph Waldo Emerson:

“The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be.”

Together, these words reinforce the importance of both empathy toward others and accountability for one’s own path.

Advice for Women Entering the Industry

When it comes to advice for women who are just beginning their careers or considering entering the insurance industry, Dani keeps it simple: focus on what you can control.

“You can control two things: attitude and effort. When you put in your best effort and keep a positive attitude, it’s amazing what opportunities can arise.”

According to her, the two most important factors are attitude and effort. When you give your best effort and maintain a positive outlook, opportunities often follow. She also encourages women not to feel intimidated by the industry’s historically  male-dominated landscape.

“Don’t be intimidated by a male-dominated industry,” she says. “Prove the stereotypes wrong. It’s kind of fun.”

Her message is one of confidence and empowerment, reminding others that determination and dedication can open doors and challenge outdated perceptions.

The Strength Women Bring to the Industry

Dani believes women bring unique strengths that deserve greater recognition.

“Our strength is that we can perform at a high level, and balance responsibilities at home and in life, all while breaking through stereotypes.”

Women in the industry continue to demonstrate that they can perform at the highest level while also balancing responsibilities both professionally and personally. At the same time, they are actively breaking through stereotypes and redefining expectations about what leadership and success look like in the field.
